Expert Chair (Climate Justice Theme)

Adv. Hafijul Islam Khan is a sustainable development lawyer and Executive Director of the Centre for Climate Justice-Bangladesh (CCJ-B). With over a decade of experience as a climate negotiator, he has been working as a Core Team Member of least-developed countries (LDCs) negotiators group on loss and damage since 2011. He is also researching loss and damage for the International Centre for Climate Change and Development (ICCCAD), and teaches Sustainable Development Law at North South University and Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB). Adv Khan, while young, is an expert legal advisor and consultant to national and international organisations including the Government of Bangladesh, UN Development Programme, Asian Development Bank (ADB), IUCN-Bangladesh, Oxfam-GB, Germanwatch-Bonn, and Legal Response Initiative-UK on legal and policy issues related to natural resource management and climate change, and he is a chair of the climate justice theme for the UNFCCC Climate Law and Governance Initiative, as well as a Legal Fellow of the Centre for International Sustainable Development Law (CISDL). Adv. Khan obtained his LL.B and LL.M from University of Dhaka, Dhaka and the second LL.M from Central European University, Budapest with OSJI fellowship.
