With the impacts of climate change increasingly being felt in climate vulnerable countries, there is growing urgency for ambition. However, law and governance capacity, knowledge, and resource barriers persist. As recent CISDL research reveals, over 156 countries prioritise institutional and legal reform in their i/NDCs, and over 50 countries explicitly stress the need for capacity building, suggesting that effective support is imperative. Alongside the first meeting of the Paris Committee on Capacity-building in Bonn in May 2017, this special roundtable event will bring together researchers, delegates and practitioners working on climate law and governance to help to shape the law and governance research, education and capacity building agendas to address these challenges.
The 2017 Climate Law and Governance Roundtable will report on research, reform and capacity projects launched during CLGD 2015 in Paris and CLGD 2016 in Marrakech, share knowledge on new education, policy and capacity building work, and identify gaps and propose themes and activities for CLGD 2017 to help our networks to build synergies and scale up Climate Law and Governance together.
The 2017 Climate Law and Governance Roundtable is convened by the Centre for International Sustainable Development Law (CISDL), the International Law Association, the Lauterpacht Centre for International Law (LCIL), the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the Global Open Data for Agriculture and Nutrition (GODAN) and other key partners of the Climate Law & Governance Initiative.
